Travelers tips

By Rob Clement

What is the best piece of advice you have ever had for traveling? I have put a collection here for everyone to benefit from. If you have any to add, please let us know.

Do you want to pack for a holiday and not need a gorilla to carry everything? Do not expect everyone else to do your carrying for you. You may want to carry 80 lbs of luggage and a large rucksack but unless you were in the marines it will hurt after a while.

Do you want to save money, purchase travel insurance, stay fit? All these topics are covered in the articles. So dig in and let us know what you find helpful and what is not so hot.

Do you intend traveling by rail (especially in Europe)? Do you want to reduce the effects of jet lag? Do you just want to travel in luxury? Do you just want to be the most relaxed person on the whole trip or will you finish the trip needing another holiday to get over this one? You choose.

Be a better traveller. Enjoy the journey and get there unflustered and ready to go out and see the places you have come to see. You have spent so much of the year working that you need to go and see the benefits of your work by having a holiday. A holiday will relax revive and refocus you. It will be good to get away from the telephone and computer. Sometimes it is also good to get away from the best of colleagues at work. You will value them far more by not being in work for a time.

If you are a manager for a company or the business owner and feel that a vacation is not possible this year or for the next few years then please read “You too can have a vacation.” The title is true and you need a break as much or more than your staff.

If you can think of a topic that you wish to be covered then please send it to me.

Hot off the press. I was reading the UK daily papers this morning and noticed a warning about using the European cheap airlines. The warning was to make sure that if you intend to carry a surfboard, skis or a set of golf clubs that they are adequately insured. What the low-cost airlines are doing is putting a “limited release” sticker on surfboards, skis and golf clubs. This sticker is usually used where you turn up to the airport with a tatty suitcase or holdall that is likely to fall apart in transit. Also the low-cost airlines are charging the price of the ticket or more to transport these items. Please read the small print and check.
