Specific
Locations

Where
do I go next for my travels? This is often the first question I ask
when I return from holiday and have got back into the rut. It may take
you a little longer. You may have to consider the youngest in the
proposed holiday party and also the oldest. It does not matter if you
have children or grandparents with you, all will want a say. We have
come up with some specific countries and places for you to think about.
Some of the locations may be your favourite holiday haunts; others may
be far, far away.
We
have taken some articles on countries as diverse as India, China,
Russia, Ecuador, Sierra Leone, Holland and Siberia. What about cities
like London or Barcelona or Boston? Do you love the wide open spaces or
are you a city-lover. Culture may be high on your agenda or history. We
all have different views of history as one American remarked when told
that we were flying over Windsor Castle “Why didn’t the Queen have the
castle built somewhere else and then it would not be flown over by
aircraft?” I think that maybe the castle predates both aircraft and our
current queen by several hundred years.
What
are you waiting for? Are you waiting for the presidents of these
diverse countries to come to your country and give a personal
invitation? They are doing almost everything else. They invite travel
agents. They encourage the twinning of towns together in different
parts of the world so that business leaders and school children can
travel between the towns or cities freely.
Are
you waiting to have a windfall? What would you do? Would you travel the
world or would everyone around you be there with their hand out? Work
out how much it will cost. Some places may well be too expensive with
the current exchange rate between your currency and theirs but it does
not take much of a change to make a very expensive holiday into a very
reasonable one. (see exchange rate calculator below) Maybe you would be
better taking a cheap holiday on one year and a more expensive one the
next. Make the most of the travel opportunities of the 21st
century.
Air
travel is getting more and more reasonable. Trains around Europe or
Asia are getting faster and more reliable. There is a new train route
to Lhasa opening this year 2006 and agreement has been reached to build
a high-speed railway line from Beijing to Shanghai where the current
journey time of 13 hours will be cut to 5 hours. The speed of the train
will be 350 kilometers per hour (220 miles per hour) and the track is
due to be over 1,320 kilometers long. That will not open for a few
years but it is coming.
Look
at the options and see where you would like to go next week, next month
or next year. Getting to know the places you will see is half the
battle in enjoying a wonderful stress-free holiday.
