About
Us
What are
we doing and why are we here?
What are
we doing? We are collecting some of the best travel
information on the web. We are then going to present
you with ways of getting to those only dreamed of
holiday destinations within your budget. Yes unless
we are billionaires we have a budget and some
holidays are within that budget and others are
outside the budget. I also know that some of you
would not dream of travelling in economy or coach
(“cattle”) class but others are perfectly happy
with the price. We are all different and I know that
everyone will find something that is interesting and
useful
Why are we
here? I came to the end of a career in commercial
computing and have started using the skills learned
in almost thirty years to help others find the best
holidays at the best prices. From what I can gather
there are very few travel agents in America as people
are going to the internet. Here you will get the
information to make an informed choice about your
holiday. You will always have a choice and you need
to be able to decide how much risk you want to take.
(Bungee jumping for example was never my idea of fun
but if you think you want to try it out then make
sure your holiday insurance covers it). It sounds
simple but it is the simple things that we often
forget.
We are
starting with a selection of articles from the web
about travelling including some that look at specific
destinations. We are looking at any age-group of
holiday purchaser, from students to seniors. We are
looking at all the holiday options from adventure to
tranquillity. Our eyes pass from the ultra-modern to
the ancient civilisations of the planet. You can do
all this from the comfort of your computer desk and
keyboard.
We are
going to be making a focus on China. We have been
traveling around China for the last few years. We
have lived in China for almost 2 years. We have been
fascinated with the richness and diversity of this
country in terms of altitude, cuisine (your local
Chinese takeaway has a very limited menu) history,
culture and climate. With the Olympics coming to
Beijing in 2008 and the World Expo to Shanghai in
2010 there are plenty of opportunities to come and to
view the Far East in all its variety. For example
almost as soon as the Olympic location for 2008 was
announced one of the airlines started to offer a
package holiday that included Thailand as well as the
Beijing Olympics. If you come to China at the time of
the Olympics you will not be able to go into a large
department store or supermarket and not see a group
of men and children sitting on the floor to watch
their favourite sport. They did for the last Olympics
in Greece.
One final
word “Be careful out there”. Yes I know I quote
from the TV Series “Hill Street Blues” but it is
true for every traveller. Every one of us needs to be
aware of our surroundings and our fellow travellers
as not all travellers there for the journey, some are
there for what they can take. So be careful of your
money and possessions especially around airports and
hotel lobbies where you may be disorientated and have
to wait your turn.
That is enough about strenuous
activity. Start turning the pages and see what
excites you in our wonderful world
